rainy day.

so, I took my GREs, and did ok on them. I’ll take my scores I got and go with it. As I was very happy to have that lifted off my shoulders, I did a little shopping at nordstrom. I got…

these lovely pumps by enzo angiolini. I’ve been ‘craving’ grey pumps and I’m holding out for these as well, though these beauties above are a bit more classic and will go with other things. I also got a pair of minnetonka mocs that I’ve been wanting for a while, as I need a good fuzzy, cozy slipper that I can wear outside too if need be.

When I left the mall, it was raining profusely. They say we’re to get a noreaster! Oh my. I’ll be spending the rest of the evening making a yummy butternut squash, spinach, and sausage dish of some sort, as it sounds perfect for this kind of weather and packing our apartment up. There’s a wall of books with my name on it, and maybe some of them will find themselves in boxes tonight.

In a perfect world, I would have this cutie orly kiely radio to listen to NPR and Radiolab as I go about my business this evening. How darling is this? It’s on sale at her Covent Garden store (imagine? kate spade and orla kiely in such an immediate area. sigh).

right on target.

Man, oh man. In my ‘funemployment’ I’ve had to learn to kind of cut back on the amount of shopping I usually do. It’s sad, but I never was a truly extravagant, designer-everything kind of shopper. If anything, the challenges arose when I got my current part time job at kate spade ny, where you have to dress and kind of ‘live’ their brand. It’s a fun lifestyle that I identify with quite a bit (you should SEE the training material, it’s the first time i’ve ever wanted to take work home with me!), but at the same time coming from a job where I mostly wore jeans and casual tops, I find myself dressing up for most of the week nowadays, tights, dresses, and cardigans.

Anyway, having to work with my current wardrobe, I befriended the j.crew outlet quite a bit in the beginning, and reworked a lot of my pieces, adding new shoes and a cute cardi I got with my discount. Etc, etc. The sales rack at anthropologie was also quite good to me, as well as H&m.

Another source, that many fashionistas on a budget already know of is…Target. However, in the past in particular collaborations, I found myself a bit disappointed (liberty for target, I’m looking at you! your weirdo floor skimming poly dresses made me want to cry, zac posen- you can’t hide either!). Target, though, in the most recent months have been spot on with some great piece

dolce vita for target

( i love, love, love my brown dolce vita flats with the chain detail- i love busting them out every fall!)

tucker for target

(so cute, I wear them with these tights, my beat up knee high boots and feel very austin city limits in it)

mulberry for target

(ok, I don’t own this and if I didn’t work at ks, I would get this cute-ass little black satchel. it’s cuter in person, I swear)

anyway, tons of cute new things. Plus I can buy a 20 pack of giant garbage bags to pack all my beautiful clothes in. And pretty much everything else under the sun!

Good Haul!

Today I went to the Princeton Day Bryn-Mawr used book sale. Sounds pretty uppity for a room full of books, eh? Well, that’s how they do in Princeton! The proceeds actually go towards scholarships to Bryn Mawr and Wellesley. I’ve heard of the famed sale several years ago but finally got around to it. With my friend Kyu, fellow bibliophile, we went to what ended up being box/bag day- where you can fill a box they give you for $10.00 or a bag for $5. She went for the bag option, I went for the box (and I could have stood to fill it up more, if my poor arms could take any more weight!), and I got a pretty decent haul. At first, I didn’t think I was going to fill a bag, not even considering the box option. I browsed through the travel books, then some hardcover fiction, putting some books in my recyclable tote I brought along, but once we got to the literary classic table, my bag filled up until I went out into the lobby for a box. So it happens!

My favorite finds were of a bunch of vintage Penguin paperbacks. I got a lot, so I’m putting a small stack of them together for a gift for another Penguin fan friend.

Notice how they all don’t really line up exactly? Funny! Anyway, these are probably going to be saved for a project or display of sorts, as opposed to actually reading.

As for the rest of my haul, I ended up getting several books that Nick and I own already, but I couldn’t pass up their way-cooler vintage covers (All Quiet on the Western Front and Animal Farm are examples of this). I’m really pleased about the Nancy Mitford bio of Zelda Fitzgerald and the Joyce Carol Oats novel (that cover is so hot!). The James Bond is for the boy, but I love the hot pink cover!

I also managed to score some more books, included really old copies of The Forsyte Saga and Woman in White as well as a biography for Martha Gellhorn, Jonathan Franzen’s The Corrections (without an Oprah sticker thankyouverymuch), and a copy of What to Expect when You’re Expecting (for a friend!). It was a fun time with my friend to just go nuts on all these books. We’re looking forward to next year’s sale, as well as any other used book sales that come our way. Now it’s time to go through the library and see if I can prune a bit to accommodate our new books!

To chase this feeling, I just purchased a set of Ford Maddox Ford vintage Penguins on Ebay. Woohoo!

late night purchasing

I guess it’s not that late-night, but skipped out on a BNO (Boy’s Night Out) with Nick and his buddies to lay in my bed and rest up to work the floor of Coffee Fest day 2. I forgot how it is being on your feet all day, talking to people about tea.

As I try to rest the extra caffeine in my system (had some frozen espresso beans covered in chocolate syrup, among other things), I did cave and bought myself something (the shopping ban goes back into effect NOW…oh and I rescheduled my GREs…again), this print by Youngna Park.

I spied it first on Designismine and fell in love with it. Something about the bright bunting (Designismine’s love of bunting has rubbed off on me) and the  dreariness of the naked trees. Tonight, I finally saw a way to purchase it off of 20×200. Now it is mine, awaiting a frame to be placed on the desk to cheer me up when feeling down, which I have to admit, is what I’m feeling today.

Oh no, there’s a video? Liberty of London for Target

I’m just hoping that Target has a HUGE stock of Liberty of London, because going by this video, it’s going to be insane. I think I might buy every I see in this video and that I can justify the purchase of it all. There will be some online exclusives (like a teapot and a beach cruiser!). I’m really hoping the dresses and accessories are well made, it’s so hard to find lovely floral print dresses. And I plan to wear many dresses once the warmer weather hits.

Visit Liberty of London’s page on Target.com to check out four of the prints. You can also take a FB quiz to see what pattern you are and download wallpaper for your iPhone, Droid, or desktop. Fun! I’m in love with the ultra-feminine Garla print above. I might have to get the quilt, much to Nick’s chagrin.

but I want?

I’m limiting myself to a very strict shopping budget until post GRE’s (my treat will be summer clothes at the JCrew outlet and a all out crazy-lady spree at Target on March 14 when Liberty for London debuts. That will be a post on its own, I’m sure). Food, gas, beer, and maybe that pretty paisley scarf from Anthropologie (maybe) will be allowed for the next three weeks. Wish me luck.

But of course, this post I caught on My Love for You is like a Stampede of Horses a VERY awesome art blog teased me with these Jill Bliss iPhone covers from Uncommon. You choose the print you wish and you can resize the picture to fit your case. My choice below:

Wants! So bad!! I love Jill Bliss’ vintage-y floral prints and how cute would that be sheltering my iPhone from unfortunate drops and nicks? I thought I was pretty rad with my hot magenta iCase, but now I’ve seen something even better.

At $39.95 they are a bit pricey, but perhaps on part of this crazy spree in three weeks, I can treat myself to one. Uncommon has a crazy slew of other artists too.  Pretty!
